Walking trails in Kassandra
Kassandra or else the first peninsula of Halkidiki hides unique beauties and surprises. If you want to know the secrets of its wonderful nature and admire the emerald color of the sea from up, then it's worth to follow the touring routes of the region. Here are the marked with a "Trident" tracks 1 through 6.
Guided by the... "Trident"
Few may know that in halkidiki have been maped 20 beautiful trails for walking. So if you are a nature lover and are interested in discovering halkidiki, through forest paths and secluded beaches, you will need to follow the 20 courses that have been drawn and marked with the sign of the Trident. Tracks 1 to 6 are located on the Kassandra peninsula, tracks 7 to 12 in Sithonia, tracks 13 to 15 at the beginning of the Athos peninsula, tracks 16 to 19 in the hills around the mountain Cholomontas and track 20 is in the district of Olympiada. Each season has its own unique flavor, so let's take the opportunity to walk the lovely routes. Arm yourself with the appropriate clothing. Grab a walking stick for support, a a good camera or a good mobile phone to capture the unique beauties of Halkidiki's nature.
TIP: The trident is the trademark of God Neptune. And because the three legs of Halkidiki resemble a trident "pinning" the Aegean Sea, so the signaling of the paths carries this signal.
ROUTE 1: Sani - Bird Sanctuary - Sani
It starts from the Tower "Stavronikitas" in Sani area, west of the well known hotel complex. Following the markings with the characteristic "Trident" and to the west, you will enjoy an easy walk through the trees along and near Sani Beach. In the middle of the path you will find the Wild Bird Sanctuary, with a beautiful view to the wetland. The route is circular and leads you back to the Tower. It takes about 2.5 hours.
ROUTE 2: Sani - Sani Camping - Siviri
The route stretches for 20 kms, it followes a path very well marked and runs through steep slopes between the Sani Beach Holiday Resort and Siviri. In the middle lies Sani Camping where someone can terminate their tour if they desire so. Due to the difficulty of the route some attention is desired by those who are affected from vertigo and kids. However, those who choose it, will be rewarded by the incomparable view and a beautiful forest landscape with amazing nature.
ROUTE 3: Posidi - Pine Forest - Posidi
An easy, circular path above the beach in Posidi offering magnificent view of the sea and olive groves. It starts from the seaside road, 300 meters from Posidi Holidays Hotel, passes through the forest road to Kalandra and it ends up back to the beach. It lasts two hours and for the most part the tour takes place in the forest.
ROUTE 4: Polychrono - Helones(Turtles) - Polychrono
It starts at Polychrono and climbs up the forest located at its west side. It reaches the pond with the turtles (lake Mavrobara) and leads back to Polychrono. The trail follows broad forest paths, passes through a valley surrounded by sandstone hills and through the pine forest. In some places, it passes through the forest area burned in the 2006 fires. The return path has very nice view of the sea as it descends gradually, through the trees, to Polychrono.
ROUTE 5: Kryopigi - Kassandrino - Kryopigi
It is a long route through wonderful forest trails. From Kryopigi (beside the church) it is directed to the small and picturesque village of Kassandrino and returns to Kryopigi through the forest.
ROUTE 6: Hanioti - Fire guardhouse - Chanioti
It starts from Hanioti and is directed towards the interior of the peninsula, up to the hill top. The ascent follows small paths until it reaches the highest point where the fire guardhouse is located. The view from the point is infinite to all points of the horizon. Then it descends again to Hanioti.
